DIY Trellis

DIY Trellis

I needed to replace two pieces of 20 year old trellis. Why not make my own, I thought. I bought enough timber to make two chunky sections of trellis, 60 cms wide x 1.8 m high. Total cost £5.50 each. I will now stain this green and post a photo of the finished, fitted trellis.

Looks strong and sturdy Alan. Should last another 20 years. Ideal for Ivy!

Thanks everyone.

Julia, I was lucky with the dimensions. I wanted it to be 1.8 metres high. Fortunately, they (Beers Builders Merchants) sell it in 3.6 metre lengths. So I bought 8 lengths. Cut them all in half. Put 8 of the aside then cut the other 8 into 3 x 60 cms lengths, for the cross pieces. This was all cut for me at the builders yard. The timber is

19mm x 38mm x 3.6 metres long.

Karen, only trying to maintain the high standards set by Scott.

Paul, I was hoping for 40 years, but will settle for 30 ... lol.

Paul, I did a blog on 17th April (my most recent) on my trellis replacement. Has a bit more detail in it which may help if you decide to make your own. Don't forget to post pictures of yours, if you do get round to making it.

Great Alan: I appreciate all the detail. I even like the color you painted it - you'd hardly see it with a big rose bush growing over it. I want to get it done before it breaks dormancy.

Good luck Paul.
