The first swallows appeared about a week ago. They are much earlier than they have been for some years. I managed to take a photo of the nest. It obviously gets repaired each year. It is built using mud which forms into balls as the swallow carries it to the nest. It is not too clear but I think there is a swallow sitting on eggs. To have a closer look use CTRL and + together.

I thought I would update this photo and tell you we had four nests around the house. One pair made their home under the eaves of the garage but it was raided and then abandoned. The other three pairs have been very busy producing young since and the latest batch flew out today. We have been enjoying aerial displays around and above the house and neighbouring fields. We had 27 swallows sitting on one of OH's radio aerials yesterday. The days are getting shorter very fast now so they will be winging their way south shortly. It is amazing to think of these little birds making flights of over 6000 miles twice a year.
