You are right. "Dianthus" is a generic term. I'm just trying to avoid using the word "snow" right now. It's related to carnations.

I have this plant too Bathgate. It spreads little too readily in our climate. I just did not know that it belongs to carnation family. I grow lots of carnations in the pots.

I need to keep it under control. I have it growing in places I did not pant it, but I like the silvery foliage too.

Bathgate , I think it is Cerastium tomentosum (common name is snow-in-summer).????
