I thought it was a low growing shrub, but it's growing amidst other plants - hard to tell.

I have Miss Bateman (and many Goy members have it too) It is gorgeous clematis. But it needs something to climb on. Like your chain link fence (if I remember correctly) or trellis.

that's the perfect location. It can cover the whole fence if it wants.

Is it vine? It definitely looks like flower of clematis.
