How do you keep those vicious thorns clean?

I don't touch them :)

I've never kept a plant for 40 years, it's got to be a record, unless one counts trees & shrubs, but I'm just thinking of plants in pots. Has anyone else got an ancient pot plant?

That's a good question ...
I have an Aspidistra which belonged to my dad's grandmother :)
(my great-grandmother)
They are not the same leaves now as when she was alive, but it is a continuation of the same plant.
I took it from my gran's house after she died. She used to tell me it belonged to her mother.
It flowers every year, and my dad said it also did when he was little.
The oldest cactus I've got, is one that I had in 1965. It was small then, but now I have a struggle to lift it. It has only ever flowered once :(
