Down memory lane...

Likewise. I'll be over in Leek in a couple of weeks time and collecting my supplies of oatcakes (amongst other things)

Oh don't talk about it Urbanite - I do miss oatckaes so much. When we lived in Norton there was an oatcake shop just round the corner and they used to do filled ones at lunch time. Did you know you can buy them on line? I've tried twice, one lot were too thick and the others too thin but you can't have everything...

I used to get mine in Milton but the shop changed hands, or next generation, either way oatcakes weren't the same. I bought a few half dozen samples last summer and settled on Foley Oatcakes from Fenton. They tend to be on the thinnish side so not so overwhelming with all the trimmings. Best ready filled ones I've had have been from JBs opposite Haywood Hospital (they have to good to satisfy the doctors and nurses) - A decent amount of filling and properly cooked back bacon, rather than microwaved streaky. I had some from High Lane - supposed to be the best in the city but I didn't rate them very highly.

Leek oatcakes are too thick for Stokies, we prefer 'em on the thin side.

I'm not going to Leek for oatcakes, Davros. Though I've just, this morning, realised that I'm coming over on the first day of Potter's holiday so I'll need to phone Foley Oatcakes to make sure they're open.

Urbanite, while you are getting them please would you be kind enough to ask them if they do (or would do) mail order?

Incidentally OH is from Leek and agrees about the thick ones Davros.

Well I'm technically from Leek (that's what it says on my birth certificate anyway). I think it's more down to the maker rather than the town. I've had some from Stoke that were so thick and heavy it was a chore to eat one. I'll root out my leaflets and see who did orders by post (and at what cost)

Thank you Urbanite.
