This photo of the possum is a little washed out because I tried to enhance it.

I guess the native Australian possum like most of our wildlife evolved in a completely different fashion in our isolation from the rest of the world. These chaps are kind of cute though. :)

I'd say he is very cute! North Am. opossums look like huge rats! Yuck!

Mm.. I don't think I'd like giant rats running around my property.

Yeah, our opossums are very ugly. My dog caught one the other night and nearly shook it to death. I told her to drop it and it eventually got away.

when I first saw the thumbnail pic I thought it was a bush baby...could that sleek looking fellow hang from his tail? O'possums are usually harmless creatures aren't they? also marsupials, right? Don't see them in Canada, at least where I've lived...we have raccoons, and skunks. Love raccoons they are sweet little creatures...but the skunks I could do without! my dog got sprayed!

This particular variety of possum uses the tail for balance but another variety we get over here, the ring-tail possum uses it's tail in climbing and for getting around. If you ever get the chance to handle a tame one they love to curl their tail around your fingers, it seems to make them feel much more relaxed and comfortable.
