I had promised myself that I wouldn't buy any plants ,yet, for the new borders I am yet to make but, I have planned most of the planting and some are plants I brought with me from my last garden. but, I went into 2 Garden Centres today(on my way home from work) looking for a couple of grasses Stipa Sirocco or similar, to finish off the new bed that I dug/planted yesterday (which can be seen in my blog 'Progress...An Update On My New Garden' )
They didn't have any suitable grasses but the second one had these fantastic White African Lily(Agapanthus) which I'd seen there before but they didn't have them last time I went to show Julie.Or so I thought, but they had obviously been moved. Well, they only had three left and I need two so, at the great price of 2 for £9, I would've been silly not to....wouldn't I? They had plenty blue ones but I already have some of those and these were a very good price.I Have seen whit agapanthus plants of similar size at 8.99 and 10.99 very recently. So, I'll have to get started on marking out and digging/improving the soil drainage for my new beds this weekend!

That was a bargain Paul....you would have been daft to miss it. :0)

Thank you for justifying my purchase Ha Ha......I know it made a sense!!!

You did well Paul. I also have an African Blue lily (new this year) and love it. It is worth to have. Nicer than grass in my opinion. I love the white ones too.

They were well worth every penny, Paul. You couldn't possibly NOT have bought them. So different from the usual blue ones. :)

... because you're worth it!
Life's too short, Paul - and it was definitely a bargain!

Good ! I'm pleased you bought them :)

Well, I have GOY approval of my purchase, it would seem....I shall sleep with a clear conscience tonight. Ha ha....I'll take my tongue out of my cheek now.
Thanks everyone....5 days off now(although, dreaded dump trip and then Sainburys tomorrow) so should get a bit of gardening done. I'll keep you posted!

My OH goes to the tip so often for me, he swears he's on first name terms with the guys who work there, and if he missed a couple of days they'd send out a search party lol!

Just started loading the bags of rubble/clay in the van now. But, by the end of the weekend, I'll have more bags of it in the garden.
I don't ever want to become a regular though, like youR OH, ha ha.......I hate the place!
Mind you, I don't think u could be too regular there or they'd think u were trade. Our new local one has a registration recognition thingy and your reg comes up on a screen each time u go in there!
19 Jun, 2015
Our local one knows all the local tradesmen, too. So much so that a friend who is a decorator can't tip his own rubbish!
19 Jun, 2015
Yes, that annoys me.some of the operatives get a little over zealous. I hated going to our old local tip as I have a van and they straight away jump on me and try and suggest I'm trade and it was quite clear a coupe, of them were trying to get a backhander.Well, I pay my council tax and hardly ever used the tip then so I certainly wasn't getting involved in any illicit payments.
I am not licensed to carry waste so I will not do it.Everybody where I work has a large green waste bin so that should be big enough. I certainly don't charge enough to be dumping waste.that said, however, I do think that as the people whose waste it would be live in that council borough, I wouldn't be doing any harm anyway but I don't get involved .I charge hourly for gardening not for illegal dumping of rubbish.
19 Jun, 2015
Exactly. And would they rather have fly-tipping? They receive an allowance for the amount of stuff recycled. If people are tempted to dump it somewhere, no-one wins. I don't understand it.
19 Jun, 2015
I think trade waste should be charged at a much lower rate so as to encourage people to dump it responsibly but, if being dumped in the same council authority area as the job is done in then there shouldn't be a charge!

I agree.

I think you made a good choice getting these. They only get more beautiful as they get bigger. I also think they contrast nicely with the blue ones.
25 Jun, 2015
Yes, I have had blue ones for years but , never the white ones.
I am currently making my new garden and have laid some of the plants out where I plan to place them. One white and one blue in each of two beds on opposite sides of the garden. My new blog, posted today, has pictures.

I will check out your blog Paul. Can't go wrong with blue & white. I wonder if I can get those here in NY?
25 Jun, 2015
I am sure I've seen pictures of them in American gardens although not sure if New York.i love agapanthus...very impressive plants.

That's a good price! I've just bought agapanthus 'silver baby' £8 - it does have 6 flower spikes in full flower and 6 spikes forming, which (sort of) justified the cost.
I'm potting up this afternoon and it is just drawing the hoverflies from miles around.
18 Jul, 2015
Yes...they love to go right inside the flowers....I also find my new achillea is very popular with them. They hover above the flat flower heads.

They are beauties Paul roots like spaggetti I have a white and blue the white I bought at the Eden Project years ago.
15 Aug, 2015
They've been in a couple months now Dawn! Finished flowering now, of course, although one of the blue ones is still blooming!
15 Aug, 2015
Saw some Ags at a garden centre the other day - almost 6 ft high, about 20 flower heads in bloom - £65 a pot.
16 Aug, 2015
Crikey, that's a lot of money for a plant!
17 Aug, 2015
They were pretty impressive though and some people will pay for instant results.
17 Aug, 2015
Yes, very true!
18 Aug, 2015
Mine are just starting to open Paul.
18 Aug, 2015
Let's hope they put on a good show Dawn.the Agapnathus around here seem to be better than ever this year!
19 Aug, 2015
Yes Paul my white one has nt flowered for years this year its bloomed must be the right weather.
21 Aug, 2015
