Bougainvillea

Another one from Okinawa. Although the bright purple looks like petals they are actually the leaves of the plant, with small white flowers in the middle. I'm told that special leaves like this, that appear to be petals, are known as "bracts".

chrisyoung - unfortunately this will ot survive outside - if you are not heating your greenhouse it would be good to take it in the house and cosset it through the winter!

I've just bought a plant identical to this.. I couldn't resist. I haven't read up too much on it yet but I have put in in a pot near my mediterranean patio. I hope it will cope with our winters.
