Milkweed

Milkweed

I love this little plant I grew from seed. Long lasting bright orange sprays. It wasn't suppose to bloom until next year but did so anyway. For the Monarch Butterfly.

Asclepias......and you refer to this as a weed. It's certainly a cultivated plant over here!

It certainly is Paul, one I can never get them to germinate!

Yes, Asclepias Tuberosa. It's perennial. The botanists are trying to take "weed" out of the name to make it more marketable.

Julia: I only got two plants out of an entire packet of seeds. Once they get going, they become tough, drought tolerant plants.

I tried growing some about 10/11 years ago too but couldn't get them to germinate !

They have a poor germination rate. I'll just let these freely reseed. I think I was lucky to get the 2 plants that i have.
