Hi Klahanie. He's not visiting, he's a permanent resident with no plans to leave anytime soon. He also has plenty of cousins, aunts, uncles and nephews. They all live under my patio. As long as the steer clear of the crows, they should be fine.
Julia: Aren't they interesting. They seem to defy the laws of nature. I never thought they would survive the winter, but the joke is on me :)
Amy: I was bewildered when I first saw them. One escaped from a pet store a couple years ago and wandered into my yard. He never left - or she. Now they have naturalized and multiplied. They hibernate underground in winter. They seem so out of place, but I laugh when I come outside and 4 or 5 of them are sunning themselves on the patio. They don't need me for anything. They have all the bugs in the world to eat.

I see more animal life around my dry plants...lizards,gartersnakes every now and then, and just the like. In my watered backyard? Not much other then birds to the water or feeder.
