Wildlife pondside. No frog spawn yet but they are playing in the water doing whatever they do best at this time of year.

I think we have two in our tiny barrel, not heard any hanky panky as yet!!

Seen three in the pond but there is nothing growing in there yet hope the frogs do not start to lay spawn just yet as there is nothing to stick the spawn to, it was all iced over last week three nights running too.

We've had two all week in ours, one of them has gotten really really plump now, it tried swimming over the pond and just sank briefly :) the fish aren't too keen on them either, we have a wildlife pond but they never lay their spawn in their so usually the tadpoles that I don't move into the little pond get eaten by the fish.

Hope you get some spawn in yours too Dan I am keeping fingers crossed, they usually lay some in here and we do get toad spawn too. Usually late March/early April but think because it was such a mild Winter it has thrown the wild life clock a bit awry.

That's what we've been thinking too that it may come early because of the mild weather, we usually get some and they usually lay it on the marginal/shallow water plants! Fingers crossed for some for us all :))

No sign of frogs here yet. But we had two visits from a couple of herons last month, so they may have taken any residents. I didnt see them. It was a tradesman that reported it to me.

Wonder if you could beg some spawn Karen to get your pond started off with frogs. I understand that frogs return to spawn where they hatch. Hope the heron hasn't taken my frogs. I love frogs, not seen a newt this spring but did see one on the pond side under a rock last year. Need the water plants to get going soon. It all looks quite bare at the moment.

Shouldn't need to as there are so many frogs about here because of the burn that runs alongside the field behind us. I saw a huge one on the deck last year. Perhaps once theres a bit more shelter around the pond...

yes they do like nooks and cranny's, I have rocks and an old plant pot laid on its side for them to hide in and under. Originally we had old tree stumps and now they have rotted away but it all takes time to attract wildlife into ponds.

Yeah, and my pond is pretty exposed at the moment.

Luckily the heron cannot get down here, no room to manoeuvre those long legs....
