Thats beautiful Vic, but sorry, not Vyvyan. She has paler, double flowers and creamy anthers. This one could be a few ...I'll do a bit of research....sorry. Isnt it lovely and early flowering though! And thats a clue as to its ID.

Most likely 'The President' I think Vic.

Thanks Karen it came with a little sheet of paper with a picture and name printed on it to! :/ I looked it up and it states, The flowers start the season fully double with the petals forming tight rosettes, and as the season progresses the flowers become single, I just took it that I had got that plant on its second flowering! Thankyou I can now look that plant up lol

Well, I wondered that myself Vic, but the colour looked wrong. I tried to grow Vyvyan a couple of times, but these type 2 clematis just don't seem to like me. I tend to avoid them now, preferring the ones that you can cut back hard in the spring with the (usually) smaller flowers that generally come later. The large flowering ones that I love to grow are the new 'Boulevard Collection'. They are hard pruning and flower all season. But without the Clematis wilt problems that I get from group 2 clematis. They also grow a lot shorter so don't need as much support. But I LOVE to see a good mature group 2 clematis, like The President or Vyvyan Pennel in full flower...they are spectacular. I do have one or two that I am going to try again with...just love Clematis. :)))

Thanks Karen I love clematis to and most other climbers I love any plant that gives you height makes such a difference, I've tried to grow lots over the years like yourself and It's been hit and miss. I have Montana but that's bulletproof just as well I think lol I'll have a look at the 'Boulevard Collection' thanks again Karen I really appreciate the help and advice :)

Oh, that's lovely of you to say so Vic. Have a browse on www.taylorsclematis.co.uk. They are in Doncaster (near where I grew up) which is not that dissimilar a climate from here much of the year, so I buy a lot from them. Huge range to choose from too.
