Thanks Shirley, we have virtually watched it open up throughout the day, the fragrance is beautiful.

I just love Lilac.

Actually Waddy, this was the only feature in the garden when we moved in 4 years ago. Even that does not belong in my garden really, the roots to the Lilac belong to my neighbour, having said that there is more of the tree in my garden than hers. We moved in August 2012 with the grass (if you can call it that) approximately 2 to 3 feet high and that's all there was. The guy who lived here before didn't own a lawnmower or any gardening equipment for that matter. It's been hard work but worth every minute.

I hope your neighbour loves the lilac as much as you do. At least the fact that the previous owner of your house didn't like gardening means you got a blank canvas to start with. It's taken me ages to get our garden how we like it and rid of what I dislike about the previous owners have done.

Yes waddy, I only said to the wife yesterday we were actually very lucky to have a blank canvas to start with. When I started to cut down the high grass there were frogs and all sorts living in it. I just wished I had thought to take a picture before we began the work.

I know what you mean. We've done lots of work I wish we'd taken'before' and 'after' pictures, the trouble is we tend to just get stuck in and forget to record our work.
