Brian - I confess I spray against lily beetles. But only on the advice of the Chief Entymologist of the RHS who said it was the only feasible way to control them.

What do you use, Andrew, on the advice of ....rhs?

Sue - I use Provado Ultimate Bug Killer (in spray form).
I usually start with the first application around late April/early May as soon as the temperatures warm up enough for the beetles to make an appearance, and make repeated applications every 4-6 weeks. I use it as late as possible on dry evenings with no wind to avoid harming other plants or pollinating insects.

Andrew I use that on them but not that organized sometimes it has been used every few days as new beetles fly in, it has seemed to have prevented any eggs hatching and making there awful mess.

Works for us too Andrew.

If the Lily beetles have laid eggs, I end up wiping the gunk off the leaves with a cloth, then killing the larvae, by the boot method.
