if its the common Scotch Thistle, Cirsium Vulgare, it's biennial.

ah right maybe it was then, cannot say I have noticed it this year and I was up there weeding last weekend, so think I would have spotted it if it had been there.

Do you remember that huge thistle that grew in your back border last year? Well, I've accidentally done the same this year...thinking it was an Eryngium! Now I've realised its just a thistle and its big! I shant remove it though...let it do its thing now.
