A very strange thing happening to my Rhododendron 'Lemon Dream'

I put this on as a question, wondering if the new pink buds were seed heads. The bush is looking very pretty with the pink buds.

I have the same thing happening on my standard rhody. I have no idea why. I also removed the dead flower heads.

Some of mine yellow rhododendrons have pink buds Homebird and then they open to yellow but I do not have "Lemon Dream". Is it it's second flush?
