Thanks brian. Got on and cleared some more today and don't I know I've done. Think every part of me hurts :-). Did it all on my knees due to most of what I had to clear was horsetail and trying to get as much root out as could. Know it will grow back but I don't like using weed killers with the dogs and cat around.

Thanks Daylily. Think where this house was build in 1878 its been a garden for so long I have lovely black soil where the fields all around me have red soil.

Lovely, when we bought this house the owner told us they added leaf mould twice a year over the years, I didn't really know what it meant then but i can tell we have decent soil for it as I tried to dig my in-laws down the road a while ago and it was way heavy compared to ours I was surprised :-))
