Last Summer, I grew Gloriosa outside for the first time ever and was amazed at the number of flowers I had! The same tubers have all started growing again this year so I'm hoping for a repeat performance... ;o) Sadly I've been very late starting my Gloriosa tubers in the conservatory this year, but am pleased to report they are growing at a great pace...! :o)

Thanks Petal for this useful information........ what Kind of position did you plant them in? I don't think ours would be mature enough yet, as last year was their first year of flowering? I remember you telling me how many blooms you had...... must be amazing!!

The tubers outside are planted in a huge pot, and are facing south. The ones inside are kept on the shadier side of the Conservatory, but of course when they reach the roof they are in the sun most of the day until early evening when the sun goes behind the trees. Will keep you posted on how many flowers I get on them this year. I don't know if planting them so much later will effect the number! I hope not!

Angela - Have always found my Gloriosa's to be extremely thirsty flowers!!! I've always kept the pots in the Conservatory, in huge saucers and kept them filled with water. They are like colourful pets... ;o) and I tend to check that they have water both early morning and later in the evening before we lock up...! ;o) I also give them a little fertilizer as a tonic(!) now and again... ;o) You could say they are thoroughly spoilt plants... :Dxxx

I've never got them to survive outdoors. My sister has mine now and they're going great guns apparently!

Pleased to read that you've found them a new home Keith! I didn't plant mine up until early July... Very late for me! I now have plenty of buds - Will have to be patient to see if they flower as well as they have in previous years.
