It didn't look good this spring, Sandra. and I was sure it was done for... relatives in Italy grow it...and my sister who lives north of us between Lake Superior and Lake Huron has it growing in her garden. Which type were you growing?... there are Japanese and Chinese wisterias and the best way to tell them apart is the direction that they twine... left to right (C- W. sinensis) or right to left (J- W. floribunda)... I have the Japanese type which, if my creaky memory serves, is the hardier of the two but my plant books give it's hardiness as climate zone 6..and I'm in zone 4a and my sister is in zone 5. I may have been fortunate in that last winter was not extremely cold for long periods. Have been told it's a bit hard to get established but once it is, it can become invasive! It prefers sandy soil with good drainage and lots of sun.

The last one died of neglect....dried out before I got chance to plant it. My friend had a beauty growing on an old apple tree that she is trying to propagate so I may give it another go if she is successful.
