As you all know, I've been busy clearing my garden, keep filling my bin so have had to use garden bin bags. Had a pile in back garden that needed to move to front to put in car. When I lifted 1st bag found Mr toad! What I found unexpected is we nor our neighbours have any ponds. Waited till dark then moved him to hedge as wanted give him a chance to get away before Star my cat found him

Agree - hopefully full of slugs! He's very shiny for a toad too.

I had left the bags for couple of days and they were wet from rain with slugs and snails all over them. Think he and been snacking on them :-).

I think he's had more than a couple.

Maybe he's a she?..a little preggy perhaps? Instead of triplets maybe triple thousands? That would slow a female down..

Jen will find out soon enough. Looks like he/she found a home. I love them.

The (5yo) grandaughter can't understand why I like Toads, worms, bee's ,spiders, snakes, bugs in general. All the things she somehow thinks are scary.
Time to change that!

Lol, wrong time of year for it to be preggy. I hope seeing him was not a one off but do worry Star will find him. She is such a hunter still even at 13.

That's great Jen. If he's a she you will hear her trill. She would seek out a source of water (a pond or ditch) and sing all night long. After the long dry spell we had some rain and the tree frogs are yelling their heads off!

I haven't seen or heard him since took this photo. I do hope Star didn't find him/her. My last house had a big pond and we used to get tons there. Hubby always worked from home. His workshop was at side of house like here. He's a workaholic and is out there till 10 most nights. He used to joke the commute was bad at times as our patio was covered in toads that time of night.
My brother would love it there with all the tree frogs. Reptiles his thing and he has a room full of tanks of frogs and toads and 2 snakes :-(.it all started from when we lived in Brazil as kids. He had a Brazilian Bull frog called Toadus. Toadus even came back to England with us in a tin on his lap. Things were so different then.

I like snakes in my garden and I won't harm them if I see them...but I don't think of them as pets. X-) Toadus sounds marvellous. I have lots of bull frogs in my pond. Their call sounds like the plucking of the bass string on a bass-fiddle! kind of a cross between a ping and a groan! LOL... I think your toad has probably found a lovely hole and even if Star gets close she won't smell him. (hopefully)

Only just seen this. I love toads and frogs! Never get them in my garden tho ?

Thats a shame Maggie, I never expected to see them here. There is a river here and the village is named after it but that is some distance from our house, other then that there is no ponds near us. Wish I had more toads so they could feast on all my slugs! :-)

I know what you mean.... I can't believe how many slugs and snails appear in my garden at night. It's only small but it seems to be full of them! I keep putting them in the bin but still they come back. Think I will look into buying something to get rid of them because they are munching away at some clematis plants I've just put in. Having pets I'm unsure of what to use though. Will have to look on google.

I'm the same, Shadow a pain and feels he has to try and eat everything so really worried about putting anything chemical down. There has been a blog here about how to do a beer trap. It said how to set it up. I will see if can find it and PM message you where to find it if I find it. Planning to try it out next year.
