Mahonia `soft caress`

That is very attractive leaf Stroller. New to me. Different from a Mahonia we grow here.

It's doing much better than mine. And when I bought it the label said it flowers in August! Also that it does well in a patio pot - obviously better planted out.

Mine has nearly died twice outdoors now and both times I've managed to revive it by putting it in the greenhouse, so now it stays in there. It hasn't flowered yet though, yours is looking pretty Phyl. I was curious to see what colour the flowers are. For some reason I was expecting orange.

Mine has flowered a bit but so inconspicuously that I missed until it was over. And its hardly grown - certainly no side shoots, more like a baby palm tree.

I think they hate the wind Stera...something we both have plenty of!! ;)

Hi Stera and Karen, this was in my back south facing garden where it just seemed to stay static it didn`t seem to grow any bigger and definitely no flowers - but at least it didn`t die, so I moved it to the north facing front garden where it seems to have thrived - to my amazement its grown and flowered and come thru the winds and frosts we have had over the last few weeks so its obviously happy where it is.

Sorry Klahanie, bought it about 3/4 yrs ago as a new introduction, as you say quite different to the usual Mahonia.

Well well, isnt that interesting. Well it clearly enjoys shade then. I wonder...should I try it on my North facing deck?

You could give it a go Karen, this last week has bought us frost, high winds and today snow its still in flower and doesn`t seem to have fazed it!!!!!!.

I put it in the shelter of a camellia last week......kill or cure.
