Hi Brian....do you think Bloodgood is the reddest Acer? I am going to replace a poor one with a red one, but want to get the reddest one I can.

There are new names showing up all the time so that is a difficult one ,Bloodgood is fast growing if you want a tree would think amongst the best, but if you want slow growing four to six feet there are better much brighter reds the ones I have seen (I have one I showed it a couple of weeks ago ) they have much smaller leaves and may well be more prone to leaf damage.

I did a bit of research last night and 'Red Emperor' seems to be the best for the job, but couldn't get one for less than £80 on line. So I'll ask my local nursery to see if they can source one for me. But if not, Bloodgood is easy to find so I might go for it. Thanks Brian :) x

The red leaves of Acer look good with that Clematis.
