Cone of shame. Poor Shadow was "done" today. Poor thing is feeling really sorry for himself. 1st time he has ever had to wear a lampshade and not impressed.

Poor thing is really hating cone. When Ben has had to wear One, he just pushes his way around the house and chips all my paintwork but Shadow is just bumping into something then just standing there till I guide him. Got 7 days till can take it off. :-(. Think he would rather it was chips. ?

Ask the vet if he can fit a smaller one Jen my son did with his dog as she only had one eye and was doing the same.

Poor sad soul...

When we picked him up, we said about the size and they said it was the right size due to length of his muzzle. Everytime I take it off he is going straight for the wound so I don't dare go for a smaller one. Slept in chair downstairs last so I could be with him. But thanks for the idea Dawn. Must have been very scary for your son's dog especially only having the one eye.
He is Sue, bit worried as he hasn't really been drinking. I even got his going out water bowl which is a bottle thing with a pull down bowl thing but he is just not interested. If he hasn't drunk by lunchtime I'm phoning the vets.

That is the trouble if you take the collar off my son years ago had a Pyrenean mountain dog he had her spade over night she managed to get the collar off she had chewed all the stiches so my son woke up to her lying with all her stomach hanging out it cost him over £1.000 to have it put right.

Glad it could be put right poor thing. Vets do cost a fortune. Ben on this Boxing Day just passed, cut one of his top front pads badly in a field. He had to be operated on and it ended up costing over £500. Can't insure him as he has had so many things wrong and also older dog. No company will insure him plus due to him being a working dog. But at least I can claim part of it back in my taxes.

Glad to hear Ben is ok now as in dogs same with humans age is against us all and the insurance companys are behind the banks so I dont have either I dont believe in making greedy rich men richer.
Its goid you can claim Ben expenses from the tax.

The good news is Shadow 7s now drinking so can stop worrying about that. Also learning how to get around with lampshade on but think by end of week my legs will be black and blue :-).

The trouble with Pet insurance is I also think it has driven up the prices. A friend of mine who's 14 nearly 15 year old collie that had heart problems starting got asked if she wanted a pacemaker fitted! It was all jusr about the money with that vets and she stopped using them after that.

Yes it has the pdsa refered my son to a good insurance company a few years later that refused to insure the animals from the pdsa.
I dont blame your friend this has all come about because of breeders breeding pedigree s as you hardly see a mongrel now years ago all animals were taken to the pdsa for illness or rspca for strays or getting a stray dog now its become if you work its the vets even the pdsa now wants at least min £10 donation and its marked against your dog depending how much you donate . Eg if you donate £10 and your dog need an operation costing more they wont operste just treat for pain.

Aw..poor Shadow. Poor Jen too, having to sleep in a chair! I think you need to get a blow up bed at the very least Jen! He'll get used to it soon I'm sure, and the stitches will be much better for it. Its so tough though..they don't understand do they? But he knows he's loved. :)

Thanks Karen, sleeping in the armchair isn't as bad as it sounds. It's a electric recliner that goes nearly flat :-). He is so much better. Eating well and drinking. The dogs normally sleep on their own beds on our bedroom floor and that 1st night I didn't want him doing the stairs. He was so groggy. Last night I took off lampshade just for him to get up the stairs and we all made it to our beds :-). He has now got used to the lampshade and chipping the paintwork all over the place which I'm actually glad about. :-)
