3d - it's a bulb but likes the same growing conditions as you would give an alpine. It prefers full sun, although it will take part shade, and a well-drained soil improved with grit. Flowers from late summer into autumn, and will take -10C, especially if kept on the dry side during winter.

Mine came from Potterton's but it was an early spring planting - they probably don't sell it in the autumn.
