This is now my oldest fish and still not fully recovered from a fungal infection and nitrate poisoning.

so do I Hywel. she/he has a thin black line on the top lip and I'd like to think she/he is the offspring of my favourite fish Marcelle. he was stunning all deep gold with a black line on his top lip.

I haven't seen it today but there are plenty of lily leaves to hide under. I do hope it pulls through.

Fingers crossed. I'm rooting for the little fella.

I hope he recovers well for you Seaburngirl fin rot is caused by poor quality water or to many fish or a fish added and has spread if it's fin rot if you see a dead fish remove immediately . Trouble if one fish is ill the others that are well will attack to kill it.

Oh I know what happened 3d. there was half a dead duck in the pond, so they got nitrate/ammonia poisoning then secondary infection of fungus/fin rot. I did a blog about the july I'd had just a few days ago.
the pond has been fully cleaned out and treated, who and I have kept pond fish for over 35 yrs now. Before that as a family we kept marine, marine tropical and fresh water tropical fish. My dad had a spell as a professional aquarist so I learnt a lot as a child. We used to have a 'native' marine tank and as we lived 5mins walk from the beach and rock pools it was interesting to find and 'keep' natives like hermit crabs, whelks, shrimps and blennies. we used to keep them for a couple of months and then release them into their original pools.
not seen it today. looked a bit worse yesterday. :o(
But the fishing herring gull is still around. grrrr

well the gull was back this morning on the look out.
But sad to say the little chap was dead in the corner by the bog bean.

That is such a shame the little one died. I wonder if there is any thing out here you can buy to deter the Gull

an airgun perhaps but I don't intend to sit up waiting for it.
I have seen 3 2 yr olds this morning so at least there are some still alive.

That's great yes an air gun would stop it.

You could add some salt to the water- a tablespoon to the gallon ( all US is all I know) that helps much fighting fungus.
Rock salt,Sea salt, even table salt...not sure about Epsom.

I treated the tank with a malachite green and formaldehyde formulation specifically for this. though they did have a salt bath too.

I think salt works better for fungus. Malachite and Methelyne Blue for ich.
Sometimes, keeping the fish in warmer water with salt is helpful.
I know, your doing the best you can. Been there- a hundred times with fish over the decades.

it is a pond of about 1500 gallons so not able to alter the temperature.{ used to do that when we had tropical in a 4ft tank, but that was easy to do.] the remaining fish of which I think there are 6 all look to be clear of fungus now. its just a case of waiting to see if they go on to thrive.

Good luck with your poorly fish...
