I've caught one!!!

I've caught one!!!

My front garden lawn and beds have been being dug up recently so I put out some live catch traps. 1st ones I bought didn't work but hubby bought a much better one and it caught one. Everything I've looked up makes me think it is a vole. Have have released it on some waste land down the road.

Ah, they're pretty little things :)

They are Hywel, we felt a bit mean catching it but it had done so much damage to the front beds. All of them are covered in tunnels. Trap empty this morning but I know more out there as fresh holes have appeared :-(.

Yes I know, but you didn't kill them :) I hope they appreciate the trouble you've gone to, to save their lives ...

It's funny considering what we do for a living, neither of us like killing things.

Hi Dawn, wish it was just the one but woke up this morning to more holes in lawn. New trap was empty but one of the black ones was tripped but when I opened it, it was full of slugs, 4 of them. They might not be any good for catching the voles but who would have thought slugs like peanut butter lol.

I remember using a humane trap to catch mice in our conservatory (not where we live now I hasten to add) They found their way in during winter after the hamster food. Each morning I would walk to the fields and let the latest catch out. I felt terribly guilty on those cold mornings, but must needs. They did finally stop coming.

Lol Jen that's so funny slugs with peanut butter. Such a shame there are others let's hope you can catch the rest.

Waddy, caught yet another slug, but no more voles :-(. One of the tunnels is now about 5ft long going into the lawn. Talking to a gamekeeper customer of ours yesterday, he told me to bury a bucket in the bed and put wheat in bottom. Have a stick allowing them to get in and out for a few days, then take stick out. Cost a lot less then a £10 trap. He also said to soak some small rags in creosote and put in tunnels as the smell will drive them away. He noticed the damage as soon as he got out of his car and so said about it. :-(.

Dawn, who would have thought slugs like peanut butter so much. One got in the better trap yesterday and polished off all of it. I went into the house to put some gloves on to get rid of it, and by the time I went back out, it had escaped!

THEY ARE NOW TAUNTING ME!!!!! Just taken lunch out to hubby and Laura in workshop and as I went out the back door, there was a vole as bold as brass, running along the wall of the workshop on his/her way back into my front garden to continue munching my plants and grass. No Star( my cat) in sight. No, she is upstairs asleep on my bed.
