3d - I've never tried them. A Google search says they are sweet, but you don't want to eat several of them. The outsides are gritty - only suck out the pulp in the middle.

I like the sight of the fruit almost as much as the bracts , I don't think I would like to try one to eat they're full of pips / seeds I've tried growing them from seed but haven't succeeded yet ...

Amy - I've found the odd seedling in different parts of the garden. Maybe the seeds may have to pass through a bird first?

Thats interesting Andrew I'll definitely keep my eyes open for seedlings from now on ... thanks ... I even put some seeds in the bottom of my fridge for the winter but still no joy ...
