Acanthus sennii - 2017

Acanthus sennii - 2017 (Acanthus sennii)

Ethiopian shrub to six feet that acts like a perennial in the UK. Give it the sharpest drainage in the sunniest spot in the garden. Beware of the leaves - they are viciously spiny, even when dead.

I have grown cardoon, (cynara). The leaves aren't as dangerous but similar and prickly. Can see why illuminated manuscripts were decorated with acanthus "leaf" they are quite pretty.
