Mexican plant with strange leaf stipules. In late autumn, yellow pea-type flowers appear, just when you had given up waiting for them. For a well-drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Expect it to reach eight feet but don't be surprised if it gets taller (I reckon mine has made twelve feet this year).

Pretty does it need support Andrew.

A modicum. I use link stakes low down but not on the stems as they grow taller. However mine is growing in a sheltered position right against the house - in a more open site, they may need help to withstand strong winds.
