Hydrangea heads.....

Very pretty. Mine have all gone brown and dead looking. I shall have to put up with them until spring now. But these are a real addition to your winter garden.

It has taken a couple of years to settle down, but is fine now....have three in the garden now, would love more, but no room unfortunately, so will settle with these getting larger....

None of mine are very successful at the moment. Its dosappointing, but I’m hopeful that the red ones will get going next year...their third year. If not, I think they will have to be moved or removed altogether.

The few flower heads on mine are brown, I didn't realise some varieties were better at keeping their colour. Hydrangeas don't thrive here which is a shame as I really like them.

Well I had a good look at my two red ones this morning as I was clearing out around them before the forecast snow arrives! And they have grown quite a lot, but they look spindly. I think maybe just not a very strong variety. This is the problem with trying new varieties. They haven't been properly tried out and often don't stand the test of time. But as they have grown well I shall leave them ...for now.

Will you feed them as appropriate Karen, I tend to throw growmore around in Spring, fingers crossed for NO snow

Thats what I do too Dawn. Its the only thing I can get in the soil without the dogs eating it! And after that an occasional liquid feed woth seaweed extract. (Maxicrop). But my soil is very good..rich loamy, black. And the hydrangeas are in gravel. So they might just get the maxicrop..thanks.

Yes Karen, I have the same problem with fish blood and bone, Bonnie goes crazy for it, was ill once after eating it and if I use in the hole planting, the fox has been known to dig plants up. Maxicrop sounds good. Your soil sounds divine!

I bought these from the Range.....two unknown to me varieties, and although they may have taken a time to settle, I have been happy with them but, Hydrangea do well here, sometimes too well!!

Dawn it is so hit and miss......just lucky to be there when they reduced them too!

I didnt know the Range had plants. Mind you, its about a half hour drive from here and not somewhere I pass very often. We do have a B&M closer. They are also very hit and miss. I got a lovely Passionflower there. Its in the greenhouse and still flowering.

K they used to have a huge indoor section, but not any more, all bird feed now, but lots of outdoor plants, and some real bargains!

I must make an effort...in the spring.
