About 2 years old from the tops of market fruit. Looking good for February. I want to try the apple ethylene gas trick to get them to fruit this year. They are now old enough. Bigger pots too.

Huh,I didn't know they removed it from Apples to stop other plants from ripening around them. Makes sense... Interesting.

perhaps "remove" is the wrong word... they control the levels of ethylene gas given off by apples in storage facilities. http://postharvest.tfrec.wsu.edu/pages/N4I1C

Now that I think of it supermarkets do put the banana's as far from the apples as they can. Banana's are the only fruits to even have banana racks far away from the produce..with the cereals sometimes.

Apples give off ethylene gas when in storage... it is supposed to encourage fruiting in some plants. Apples in storage have the ethylene removed to preserve them. That's why they're able to store a large volume of apples for sale into the new season. Also...florists will tell you...never place fruit in a flower cooler! you can lose expensive roses that way!
