I really like these Epipactis or Helleborines. I tried to grow one in my last garden Lori, but it was only too late that I discovered that they require running water! They are beautiful for a wild area like yours.

Maybe they'd do well here? What do you mean by running water Karen? Do they like water edge conditions.

This one was growing on the side of a little valley that flooded only in the spring...and was moist when it rained. Don't know about "running" water but they do like cool shade with humidity. This site migh be of interest, Dawn. It describes the preferred spots but makes no mention of extra water. There are several North American sports...and it is said that it will even grow in the cracks of sidewalks... I don't think you'll have much trouble locating it near your little bridge or even in the forest as it likes shade. worth a try?

Interesting. When I bought mine I was under the impression that they were good for damp soil. It was only after it didnt return the following year that I read up that they like to be near moving water. Might be worth a try Dawn. I dont know what happened to mine. It did beautifully the first year, but never came back.
