I can't believe it either Lori. :-(

Ridiculous ! When will it end ...

Oh Lori...sorry to see this again. Must be depressing. Hang on in there!

15 Apr, 2018

no warm weather til May... (we'll believe it when we see it!)May have to move south ahead of the ice sheet!...the ice age is upon us. :-(

It really is like everlasting winter with you. :(

15 Apr, 2018

It does seem "everlasting", Karen! We started with snow in October, I believe, and it's been winter ever since. We usually get our first snow in mid-November. Then we had two very strange months (Jan and Feb) back to back with warm temps and thaws (3 thaws by Jan.) then back to arctic winter when we should have started our spring weather. I can't believe it's still this cold. Constant cloud and very little sun have stopped the thawing process.

We had hail like that here and there 2 days ago...covered everything in some places and kids "sled" down streets.

Lori, I recall you having an early thaw, which was just before it all kicked off again here. We seem to have been locked in to the same weather systems. Hope yours catches up very soon. Warm here again today.

I saw a news report from Minnesota about Prince. She was outside and you could see the snow was 3 or 4 feet deep. And it was dark..for middle of the day.

I sure hope so Karen... x
parts of Minnesota are well north of us, Stan... but the whole Great Lakes Basin seems to be in the grips of
cold weather originating in the west... Our prevailing winds come from the west and hearing about cold weather on the coast doesn't make me feel happy. The big storm came to us from Colorado. Most of our winter weather comes in on the Alberta clipper which is the jet stream. Last spring we had wonderful southerly flow because of the storms in the Atlantic. That flow is very weak this year and arctic cold is holding sway. Plus the increased volcanic activity with 7 volcanoes spewing and at least 143 others rumbling. the cloud cover is so heavy that it could well look like night time.

Oooooh...lori, that sounds grim. :(

We finally broke from winter temps here. It should be east soon. I know the Boston Marathon looked frigid.

Don't worry about the Volcanoes though. I did some research, as that freaked me out a bit. ;) It seems there is no evidence that Volcanic activity has increased. Its just that it is more studied now, so gets more publicity. The sites I read said if anything, there was a little 'less' activity at the moment, worldwide.

I guess it all comes down to "don't believe anything you see on the 'net." I heard that the volcanic activity was the reason for the increased amount of dust in the atmosphere which contributes to cloud and hence, precipitation. I can't understand why it continues to be so cold.
We actually had our first "warm" day today, with sunshine and a frigid wind. Tonight is supposed to be the last night of below zero temps. We can't have spring until the overnight temps remain above zero so lets hope they're right. tomorrow and Sunday PLUS 15! whew!

Hi Karen... I found this interesting...along with the rift valleys in Kenya..volcanoes in Africa and even an earthquake in Ontario today.. Whole lotta shakin' goin' on... volcanic activity in the Pacific off the coast of British Columbia and melting glaciers in Iceland.. What did we do before we had the weather network?

Once again,Lori all the west coast is a cool ,cool, funk. We might not make 60f today here so close to May. That's 10f cooler then the average, and I always hope for more then just average warm!
Much morning fog..I don't know why since its not warm inland..the usual fog creating way for the bay area.

"The air, the air is everywhere!"... we have yet to have two nights in a row with the temperature above freezing point. Today is supposed to be 23 degrees C (for the first time in the 20's since last autumn) Sorry to hear the suffering is general, Stan. I think your "inland" is suffering from the strong polar flows, like we are in the east. I was worrying but realized to no avail... we seem to be turning the corner.. (90 degree corner) on winter/spring and heading into winter/summer! Bless the pretty month of May!

How is it now Lori? Still snow on the ground?

5 May, 2018

On May first everything turned around, Stan. We've had warmish weather in the teens centigrade. We had 70 km. winds in mid-week almost lost my greenhouse...shifted it on it's foundations and I found the vents down by the stream! There's been a lot of erosion this spring and I've had to shift a tsunami of gravel (which is better than silt). Someone upstream must have put in a load of gravel and it all ended up in my pond! Crocuses and colt's foot are the only things blooming ...even the dandelions have been set back by this cold spring and it looks like my attempt at naturalizing some narcissus and tulip bulbs has been a failure.. The chipmunks are happy... I'm catching up on my raking and have been dividing the irises and making new beds along the pond and stream... after that horrible long winter even moderate temps feel like a blessing!

Thats good. Nobody wants cabin fever even if its not a cabin!
I heard it was 84f in the UK..hottest in 70 years.

We are not hot..but at least low to mid 70's is pleasant.

Pray for moderation! All the strangeness has to settle sometime. I hope the new rhythm is warm and warmer. will have to post a blog about my digging... and earth moving...changed meds mean I'm feeling stronger and much more engaged with life. Nice to get outside to work.
