Illicium simonsii - 2018

Shade-loving shrub, growing slowly in a pyramidal form to six feet according to one nursery, and ten to fifteen according to another. Certainly, a mature specimen I saw in North Wales a few years ago was at least fifteen feet tall, while mine has taken six years to reach six feet. The new wood is purple on the best forms. Needs an acid soil, and even then may sulk.
