IMG 7533- Phacelia for Amy2. Is this it?

It is Lori , Phacelia tanacetifolia ,it's generally used as a green manure by farmers ploughed back into the fields / ground for the next year ,also used in wild flower beds which is why I had it , it is a hardly annuel but then our winters aren't nearly as cold as yours so might not survive , the seed is easily collected or will fall to the ground to grow next year .. I would collect it to be on the safe side , I love it but haven't the room for it here ...

I had plans for a series of streamside beds to establish some iris and some grasses...I only managed one bed before the horrible heat set in. I planted the Phacelia with petunias (for instant colour) and added a couple of canna roots for height and a drift of bachelor's buttons and some other misc. seeds just to plant something in the new area. Even though the streams are both dried up the bed is doing fine and now it's being choked by couch grass. sad neglect on my patch this year as I'm working on wood processing and storage, and finishing my perpetual kitchen projects. I think the phacelia had close to 100% germination...it's a lovely drift of colour. Not surprised it's a green manure crop as it grows fast. That will mean that I'll have added some value to the soil of the new bed just by having it there! excellent! Thanks again, Amy.
