This has really struggled in the hot dry weather, but has still managed to produce a few flowers

It's a section of trellis. The gentian is growing under a deciduous ceanothus (to give it the shade it likes) which is trained against the trellis

Lovely, it looks as though it is wrapped around a cross but I expect it's a section of the fence.
