Very nice border. I saved in my favorite photos. That is how I imagine planting the edges of the lot. Sunlight is poor on the left side. The incidence of sun is only late in the afternoon. More in summer and less in winter.

What are the tall yellow type daisies at the back, Andrew? I am planning to get some seed from my local park.

Linda - it's silphium perfoliatum. They need moisture retentive soil, and although the stems are pretty self-supporting, some support doesn't go amiss if you want to keep them upright

that is doing well Andrew I can see that your grass has suffered like ours we have had to put down some new turf the grass was just not going back at all.

DD - I'm planning to get rid of much of the grass. It is high maintenance, needing a cut every five days in a 'normal' summer. By planting through a mulch of wood chips, I can grow more plants which need much less work. An area planted like this under an apple tree has needed no watering all summer.
