Saw this plant blooming in Zambia, on the walk to Victoria Falls. Excellent, thanks for the memories.

Very beautiful!
My plants have not started flowering yet. I watered them again this week, after avoiding watering all winter. I follow the pattern of a watering in September, two in October and weekly in November. Usually the flowers begin to appear in early December and then the watering is daily.

Wylie and Siris - it's one that you really must try. The rhizomes are readily available throughout Europe and the UK.
Aleyna - it took ages before I remembered that you're in the southern hemisphere! Do you grow yours in pots?

Yes Meanie, so far in pots.
I'd be very gratefull about tips in how to grow them in the garden. I have one pot with a single one I'll leave for my son. He will stay on our apartment when we moved to the house. And also a big pot with several bulbs which I was planning to plant in the garden.
This is what I found on "Jardineiro.net" site about it :
"It should be grown on a substratum rich in organic matter in the shade, with humidity. We can take out the bulbs after the end of the cycle to plant them at the end of winter or leave them under the ground. It multiplies itself by dividing the bulbs."

Sorry, I've never tried them in the ground as they need the heat of the greenhouse here.

I see. Well, It looks like I'll have to leave the plant in pots.

It is DD. The tubers are pretty easy to get hold of online and it's much more reliable than Tibouchina!!!

I have a couple that seem to be very late, as well. I just noticed yesterday that a Tigridia mortonii has put up a flower spike, and the hibiscus are reblooming.
But this one, I knew what it was as soon as I saw the thumbnail. It's one that I keep considering, but haven't bought, yet.
