From last summer. Had to apply LOTS of string around the juniper to protect nesting wrens from our adorable neighbours cat! Seems extreme, but, was very much needed!

Its a great thing you’ve done there! I love cats, but tbh I’m happy we don’t see anyaround here.there are far too many and they do kill so many garden birds.

Thank you everyone, it worked a treat! I think, despite Toby the cat not being able to reach the wrens nest, he found it an interesting challenge! Relieved his boredom! :0)

That's funny, up until two years back we had four cats all at the same time,( sadly we only have one now, old age and illness) however in all that time our wrens always nested at the back of our waterfall underneath the spreading juniper, the cats knew and would spend hours underneath that juniper, it didn't put them off though, two years ago we got Harriet, a westie, she did put them off, I watched the little wrens investigating my stone well a couple of months back, however I think it is too busy in that area due to my G'house being next to my well. I'm absolutely delighted to say my little wrens are somewhere amongst my stumpery which is right down the bottom of my garden, I have seen them flitting about down there, I haven't tried to discover their nest so as not to attract Harriet, she knows she is not allowed on the stumpery, thank goodness I didn't have to resort to your idea, although it is a good one, the things we do for our furry and feathered friends, all part of the joys of having a garden.....

I liked your message Lincslass, sounds idyllic, what with your pets and the nesting wrens.
I’ve seen the wrens recently again, investigating the juniper...no sign of nesting yet...hopefully they will. I’ve taken down the string version of mission impossible. Saying that, it may have to be put in place again if the wrens come back!
