I'm growing the species aquilegias from seed and let them flower first to make sure they haven't go cross pollinated at the seller's nursery. I thought the blue background really made this one stand out well

I have never thought of cross pollination. Yes it does stand out against the blue. I ve just given a packet of Aquilegia to my youngest daughter.

You'll like this one, Andrew. I found a small group of these pretty little jewels on a rocky hilltop growing between moss pockets and rock scree. They don't last long do they? I went back a week later to find them and transplant a few to my garden..and I could not find them! perhaps something likes them for dinner!? their colour is so brilliant it's fiery.
