Evergreen shrub, growing ten to fifteen feet in time. Prefers a moist soil in woodland conditions. New stem growth is purple on the best forms

DA - it wants a sheltered spot out of cold winds, but mine has being growing happily for seven years. There is a very mature specimen in the woodland garden at Plas Newydd in North Wales that looks like it's been there for a few decades

Sounds pretty tough then. I was thinking for amongst my trees where it would be quite sheltered, thanks
