The best way of getting a good photo of this plant is from above! It grows from a bulb that likes a good baking so a hot, sunny spot in sharply drained soil is required. It is described in some sources as "dubiously hardy", but I have been growing it in a raised bed for four years, although it does get a cover to keep the winter rain off
