The common spotted orchid suddenly appeared in planting baskets in my garden pond a few years ago. Numbers vary from year to year; this year there are only eight and this is the best one

Obviously likes a damp position.

Amy - they grow in a park at the bottom of the road. Orchid seed is very small and light, so they obviously arrived on a windy day
Sue - a couple of years ago there were twenty. But with last year's hot summer and this year's drought, the numbers are down

A lovely gift from nature.

You'll have to hope for another windy day for more seed.

Even wild populations vary from year to year, so I'm not going to worry

what are they growing amongst Andrew?
A friend got a marsh orchid and he assumed it was from the peat compost he was using.
I have a wild orchid growing in a pot of lilies. there is a flower bud so it will be interesting to see what it is.
I have bee orchids too :o)

These are growing with candelabra primulas in aquatic compost around the pond. I noticed the other day, a pot of ordinary potting compost has one in it as well
