So good together and so undemanding, great if you have space to let them wander. I do the same as you and use them as fillers and groundcover, even if temporarily as I hate bare soil.

Hi Marianne! I'm so thrilled with the ajuga... i've just let it go as far as it wants... it's a beautiful blue carpet at present and the bees and butterflies are having a riot! I've transplanted it into other areas and it's competing with Creeping Jenny and goutweed. sorry to say it looks like goutweed is the most invasive plant hands down.

I had to look up your goutweed but it's blinking ground elder! Are you letting it be or battling it Lori? I've lost all the battles that I've had with it over the years in my previous gardens. Just happy it hasn't managed to creep under the wall between my neighbours front garden and mine...yet

There are a few good things about the goutweed...but it's invasive nature just defeats control. I have many areas where it could roam but don't introduce it because, like you, I've lost the battle with it more times than I care to count and prefer to let the native plants have a chance. Yesterday, before it got too stinky hot, I pulled it out of the front bed where I had staged a competition between it and the other invasive curse, euphorbia. Euphorbia is running a very close second and I'm trying to pull it before it goes to seed. so much for competition studies! I'll be pulling it forever!
