Lori - it's certainly hardy throughout the UK. Americans commenting at davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/56983/#b claim it is hardy to Zone 7a and even 6a
It does best in a sheltered site

thankyou, Andrew. I see so many lovely things but cannot grow them in my climate zone. 4-5. I've had a few surprises and making the investment of time and money..and hope...adds to the disappointment when they just cannot cope with our winters.
