Me too. I love that they don't all bloom at once Yes love the sweet scent. I was sitting at my desk and detected a very sweet & delicate scent I could not trace. I looked everywhere and could not find the source, until I went outside and noticed these hostas blooming just outside my window, the scent wafting up through my window. I have white ones and light purple. I trim the stems after they bloom.

another perennial with a sweet scent is bouncing bette, Saponaria. In times past they called it laundry herb because it was used to freshen the rinse water. It can be a spreader if it likes the spot you've given it. The flowers are similar to phlox but only in a very soft pink and their scent will waft a long distance. I have some under my bedroom window and it blooms around the same time as my Abyssinian Glads... there's a bit of a name controversy, they may have a new nomenclature but I've always known them as acidanthera. I plant them among the saponaria and the mixture of their scents is most noticeable in the evening coolness. ...along with the hostas of course!

Really?! That's amazing. I vaguely remember hearing about Saponaria when I visited the Jamel-Morris estate Uptown Manhattan. Is this what they called 'Soapwort'? It's an old estate house from the 1700's. This was supposedly grown there and used for everything soapy. It's actually still growing there now, but I went in November. I checked every Garden Center I can think of but all I got were strange looks: like I had 2 heads or something, lol!

I remember when I bought my first hosta reading literature about removing the flowers. I like foliage but why remove lovely flowers like these?...it never made sense to me. I have hostas with white flowers, mauvy flowers and some are scented...I even have one with pinkish flowers! Gorgeous things and I love them all. like the lance shaped leaves too.. I'm a hosta nut.
