Yes,an outdoor Orchid. (Cattleya.)

Best kept under shelter from rains...but that's all it takes to grow these. About three years old now..so I guess I can call it safe.

Is this a cattleya orchid? Very striking.

Technically it's Rhyncattleanthe. I try at all cost to avoid spelling that.
I THINK,it's "Irene"..but lost the label and Irene is closest in looks I've found. Sold at a local flea market,3 years ago. One of the best bargains i've found. Next spring, might look for others.
These hybrids have a cool tolerance and its grown quite a bit after my learning what it needs kicked in.

You should be able to grow lots outdoors, in shade. Although there is one house in downtown Altares (the village I live in) that has a tree completely surrounded by orchids. I am getting Hibiscus, and the bromeliads are starting to flower.

The problem is I don't have any kind of automated watering. Its me and a garden hose. So keeping many up in a tree with no misters or drip is much harder.
This summer,I want to start on it though. I'm not getting younger and one week in a hospital would kill so many plants I have. Or, on a weeks trip to HAWAII!..lol
