Drimys winteri is an evergreen tree from Chile, growing around sixty feet tall. D. andina, sometimes listed as D. winteri var andina, is much more manageable for the garden, only getting to five feet. Hardy in the southern half of the country, where it needs a cool spot in moist soil to remind it of the edge of woodland where it grows in the wild
