Blossom! hope I some apples this year

until I look at the straggly lower limbs of the walnut... a cherry picker is needed to get to those upper branches, I thinned out the middle but couldn't get up the tree far enough to take out the top spouts and I'm afraid they've taken off! some extra fruit would be nice anyway.

Well it looks amazing Lori. I don't think I've ever seen so much blossom on an apple tree. Have you ever had any fruit from it?

I think I posted a pic of the army worms, last year, Karen. I fought them with soap spray and vigor (fuelled by anger) and I'm supposing that helped kill off the eggs... there was one small nest on a low branch earlier... I removed it and since there's been no sign of them anywhere else on the property. There is blossom on all nine of the apple trees. two are yellow transparent and one is an empire graft..the rest I can't be sure. I'll know better when and if I get some fruit. I think this particular tree is a crab apple. The fruits are small and bright red when ripe.. Hoping there are enough bees to do justice to all this blossom!

Ah. Well that explains the prolific blossom Lori. Something is out of balance....lack of small perching birds? We have a lot less slugs this year and the birch leaves are not in tatters with caterpillars as they usually are. Its easy for me to see why...my trees are growing big enough for perching in! But you live in a forest!!

I use to catch earwigs in old bird boxes on our apple trees ,I believe they used them to hibernate in ,it was easy to tip them into a bucket of water ..

Our bird population seemed to explode this spring with the respite from air traffic. could also be from the plentiful caterpillers last season , too, I suppose. checked out the apple blossom this a.m. and it's sad to see that some larva or other is girdling stems and distorting leaves... it never ends, does it? Our biggest passerine, the North American Robin was in decline up to last year, Karen. They eat worms of all types and also love apples and cherries... oh well.

I bought the string hammock a few years ago, Kate. It's beginning to ravel and has gone gray with mildew and tree sap... sad... because I love a good hammock. wish I was a whiz at macrame!

Still looks good from here, Lori! You never know, you may decide to take up a new skill! ☺️
